Jacksonville- America's Largest City • 01/02/2009 Posted by: Nicholas
Jacksonville was founded in 1791 as Cowford because that's where cattle crossed the St. John's River. In 1822, the city was renamed for the Florida Territory's first military governor, General Andrew Jackson. Ten years later the town was chartered. The population was 100.
Today the city spans about 841 square miles. The Jax metro area has a population of more than 1,000,000 residents. The city is home to the largest urban park system in the United States. It is also the largest deepwater port in the south.
